Sue Smith and Craig Brown share a profound, multigenerational connection to Houston Methodist rooted in both personal experience and decades of service. Craig’s family connection is deeply personal: his father survived a life-saving heart valve operation at Houston Methodist in the late 50s, and his mother received compassionate, expert care during her battle with breast cancer in the 60s. Sue’s connection is equally enduring, grounded in a family legacy of more than 40 years of service on the Houston Methodist Board of Directors. Together, these experiences have strengthened their shared commitment to Houston Methodist’s mission of advancing medical education, research, and innovation.
Today, programs such as the Houston Methodist Summer Undergraduate Research Internship exemplify that mission by providing students with hands-on laboratory experience and close mentorship, while the Capstone Innovator Awards Program helps translate groundbreaking discoveries into meaningful, real-world treatments.
