Brown Scholars Athul Mohanram and Preston Nguyenwere recently published as first authors in Frontiers inImmunology. Their article, Tug of War: Innate Immunityand Herpes Simplex Keratitis (HSK), addresses HSKas a leading cause of global visual impairment.
Their research was conducted as HM SURI internsexamining how HSV-1 infection drives chronicinflammation that leads to corneal damage.
The paper also highlights recent advances inunderstanding innate immune responses, DNA-sensingpathways, and emerging immune-based therapies thatmay improve treatment outcomes for HSK.
