Akku Kumar, his team and their company, Arrow Analytics advanced to theFinalist Round among 42 competing teams at the 26th annual Rice BusinessPlan competition, the “Super Bowl of Student Entrepreneurship”. ArrowAnalytics won 7th place, earned a $5,000 prize and a place in the WinnersCircle.
Arrow Analytics is building the first autonomous system to detect, track,and size carry-on bags in real time during airline boarding using computervision and depth sensing. Low-cost, lightweight 3D cameras at airline gatesprovide live visibility into the number of bags which help reduce delays, fuelburn, and operational uncertainty by knowing if too many bags are beingbrought on board. The system has been deployed with Southwest Airlinesin Grand Rapids with over 90% accuracy and has upcoming installations inPittsburgh and London Heathrow.
