Derek graduated from A&M in 2017 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, and his M.S. in Finance from A&M in 2018. He is currently pursuing an M.S. in Electrical Engineering at Texas A&M, where he researches magnetic gears as a member of the Advanced Electric Machines and Power Electronics Lab. During his time at A&M, Derek was involved with University Honors, where he served as a sophomore advisor, with the Memorial Student Center as a member of the Wiley Lecture Series, as a volunteer for the Engineering Innovation Center, and as a member of 180 Degrees Consulting. He plans to pursue a career in the energy sector as a power engineer.
