Brown Scholars Catherine Gunawan, Kaitlyn Hawkins, Melody Yeh, and Megan Guy won 2nd place at Aggies Invent- Para-Athletes. Engineering competitors had 48 hours to develop adaptive technologies, prosthetics, and equipment to allow para-athletes to better compete in events.
The team created individualized equipment for para-cyclists with imbalanced leg strengths to improve their strength, reduce strain, and obtain real-time feedback. The invention included an attachable transmission unit to the bottom of a bike bracket, so each limb pedals with appropriate resistance relative to limb strength.
The team also won Best Presentation Award and Best Prototype Award.
Catherine, Melody, and Megan were admitted E2EnMed EAP.
