Rachel graduated from A&M in 2009 with a B.A. in History, a B.S. in Psychology, and a minor in Neurosurgery. She went on to complete an MD from Baylor College of Medicine. After medical school, she was matched to Baylor College of Medicine for general surgery residency and is currently working to complete seven years of post-graduate medical education. During her training, she was accepted into Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and the Gold Humanism Society, both of which are high honors within the medical community. She presented an idea to the departmental education committee about adding a two year research fellowship in addition to the classic five years of general surgery residency. She completed two Global Surgery fellowships. She has operated in Malawi, Guatemala, and Tanzania and is working with the Baylor Center for Global Initiatives to develop a high-tech but low-cost mobile surgical unit that is entirely self-contained and readily deployable to areas in need of surgical care.
