One of seven student projects selected for funding through the EnMed Capstone Innovators Awards Program at Houston Methodist, Brown Scholar and M3 EnMed student Ashley Chuong’s research project addresses an important gap in vascular medicine by investigating whether biological differences between women and men affect how they respond to drug-coated balloons, a common minimally invasive treatment for peripheral artery disease (PAD).
The research aims to better understand how these differences influence treatment performance and outcomes while developing a flexible, customizable drug-delivery platform that can be tailored to individual patient needs. Ultimately, the goal is to advance more precise, personalized PAD therapies that improve treatment effectiveness and help reduce disparities in vascular health outcomes.
